Welcome to Alegría!
We’re so excited to have you join our little community! We hope you find comfort, joy, and answers to your questions during your stay.
Resident’s Chat
We would love for you to introduce yourself in the Residents' Chat! Share a picture and tell us a little about your visit—this is a space where we all connect. You’ll also find helpful tips from our community, like what to do when the power goes out, where to find delicious local treats, and more!
Visitors? Use the HAC App
If you’re an owner, use the HAC app for entry to Alegría. Renters, please ask your host to provide you with a code when needed.
Health and Wellness
As part of a close-knit community, we all care about each other's well-being. If you’re feeling sick, please rest at home and refrain from spreading germs. If you need any help, don’t hesitate to reach out in the Residents' Chat—there’s always someone happy to assist!
First Aid Kit
We’ve got you covered with a first aid kit in the Hive, on top of the shelves. It includes essential supplies like an epipen, just in case.
🏗️ TODO point at map for people that don’t know where the hive is
Recycling and Waste water
Taking care of our environment is a community effort. You’ll find garbage cans at the Hive and near the entrance. If you need help carrying your trash, just let Tavo +506 8842 5517, our community manager know—he’s always happy to assist. We also encourage everyone to clean and separate their waste. Remember, most of our toilets are septic systems, so please only dispose of human waste and use the small trash bins next to toilets for anything else.

WastewaterPets
We love animals here, but please remember that Alegría is home to wildlife like pumas and other creatures. For your pet's safety, please keep them indoors when you’re not around. If your pet is anxious or aggressive, it’s best to leave them at home. Please keep your dog close and under control — it's for their safety and everyone’s peace of mind. Our dog park is a great space for pets to run freely and safely—just make sure to pick up after them! The garden area is a pet-free zone to protect the plants. Please remember to have your pet spayed or neutered.

Community Spaces
Let’s treat all our shared spaces with care and respect. Quiet hours are in place to ensure everyone enjoys peace and tranquility, especially considering the wildlife around us.
Quiet hours
9pm - 6am No loud music before 9:00 am or after 8:00 pm weeknights, 10:00 pm weekends
The Hive
Our main community hub - please wash your dishes and leave no trace. We have free Wifi at the hive.
Appliances
Fridge:
Feel free to leave food in the fridge. We recommend you label it and be sure to take only your own food out.
Stove:
Turn on the gas (it is on the corner facing the baby pool). There should be a lighter in the cutlery drawer to the right of the stove for the oven. There's a small hole at the bottom of the oven- put the lighter and turn the knob to where it's for lighting and then once it's lit, you adjust the temperature. You can see a flame in the reflection of the oven door. TURN OFF THE GAS, WHEN FINISHED please.
Lights:
Most light switches are in a box at the entrance on the right. Other light switches are in the kitchen, toilets and in the halls to the sinks. If you are the last to leave the hive - TURN OFF THE LIGHTS please.
Pool
There is no lifeguard, so please watch your little ones and shower before using the pool. The lights for the pool are at the box at the entrance on the right.
Hot tub
Turn on the electric heating next to the hot tub. Note it takes hours to heat it. Switch it off again, when not used.
The Yoga Shala
This peaceful space is for reflection and yoga. Please take your shoes off before entering, and note that the compost toilet has special instructions—liquids in front, toilet paper behind, and a scoop of sawdust on your solids. There is a maximum of 65 people. Supervise your little ones. The Wifi password is: yogashala
Farm and Harvest
Our abundant farm is a gift we share. You vote for your basket in the residents chat on mondays. The harvest happens every Tuesday morning, and we appreciate your help with the harvest. Also we’d love your help in gathering fruit from the trees along the roadside. If you spot any ripe fruit, let Tavo (NEI) +506 8842 5517 know so he can coordinate with the farm workers to collect it for the community.
Alegría Weekly HarvestFire pit
Our fire pit is a wonderful place to gather, but please be sure to follow safety rules—there’s a hose nearby, and remember to fully extinguish the fire afterward. No fires during the hottest months, please.
Activities
In our community we come together to plant trees and mulch, do Yoga and exercise, dance, enjoy sound baths, go on hikes, have potlucks, and more! Check out our community calendar for upcoming events, and if you'd like to host one, take a look at the guidelines.
Community ActivitiesImportant Notes
- There are no streetlights here, so bring a headlamp or lantern if you're out after dark.
- While caterpillars are cute, some can be dangerous—admire them from afar! If a hairy caterpillar brushes against your skin, get a roll of duct tape to lift off the poisonous hairs.
- Be mindful where you step—our jungle is home to creatures like snakes, scorpions, and spiders.
- If you see a snake, reach out to Tavo (NEI) or the fire department in Orotina for help. Stay safe and enjoy the beauty around you!
